The Telegraph gives advice on reducing the cost of care

2008-12-17 00:00:00

The Daily Telegraph reports on five ways that families can beat the ‘postcode lottery’ and reduce the cost of a relative’s care in a nursing or residential home:

  1. Keep ownership of your home away from the grasp of the Local Authority if at all possible

  2. Ensure you’re getting the right level of care funding, e.g. NHS-funded Nursing Care or NHS Continuing Healthcare

  3. Claim all the Social Services benefits to which you are entitled

  4. Review all your payment options before selling your home to pay for care

  5. Move to Scotland, where additional funding is available for personal care as well as nursing care.
