The Daily Telegraph reports on five ways that families can beat the ‘postcode lottery’ and reduce the cost of a relative’s care in a nursing or residential home:
- Keep ownership of your home away from the grasp of the Local Authority if at all possible
- Ensure you’re getting the right level of care funding, e.g. NHS-funded Nursing Care or NHS Continuing Healthcare
- Claim all the Social Services benefits to which you are entitled
- Review all your payment options before selling your home to pay for care
- Move to Scotland, where additional funding is available for personal care as well as nursing care.
