Burglary warning for care homes in Crewe and Nantwich

2009-04-30 00:00:00

The police have warned care home staff and residents in the Crewe and Nantwich areas to be on their guard after reports of several attempted thefts from homes in the area. Three separate intrusions have been recorded so far and police are investigating a possible link between the crimes. Although nothing was taken during the incidents, Cheshire Police suspect that the intruders were trying to steal money or property from residents – and it is possible that they are deliberately targeting vulnerable people. A Crime Reduction Adviser is liaising with care homes and sheltered accommodation across the Crewe and Nantwich area and police officers are actively working with care providers to help review their security arrangements. Residents and staff have been asked to call 999 if they find any unauthorised persons on the premises or they disturb a crime in progress. If they notice that any property or possessions are missing, or find evidence that unauthorised persons have been in the sheltered accommodation or care home, they should call the Cheshire Police Information Line on 0845 458 0000. Police have also asked relatives and friends that are visiting residents to be alert and contact the police if they see or suspect any suspicious activity.
