What We Do

How It All Began

Cheselden was established in 2007 to bring to an end the confusing and often unlawful restrictions on the provision of free continuing care in England. We are based in the North West of England and operate nationally. Our company was named after William Cheselden, an eminent surgeon who influenced the establishment of surgery as a scientific medical profession in the 1700s.

Since 2007, we have reviewed thousands of cases and handled hundreds of successful continuing care claims for both current and retrospective funding.

Why What We Do Matters

Despite the introduction of the National Framework in 2007, qualifying for continuing care funding is still a ‘postcode lottery’. Government statistics show that the number of people who receive care funding varies dramatically across England’s 152 Primary Care Trusts (PCTs).

As a result, many seriously ill people are missing out on NHS-funded care. With the average place in a care home with nursing costing around £35,000 a year, many self-funding residents are being forced to use their savings and sell their homes to pay for care.

Cheselden is here to promote nationwide consistency in continuing care eligibility decisions, whilst helping our clients obtain the refunds and/or ongoing funding they deserve. We believe that everyone should have equal, fair and legal access to healthcare services and funding as set out in the National Assistance Act 1948 and the NHS Act 2006.
