About Us
Who we are
Cheselden Continuing Care Ltd is the leading independent continuing care review specialist in England. We help patients and families who have been turned down for funding to pursue their case for free NHS Continuing Healthcare and for restitution of monies that have been wrongly paid for care. Founded in 2007, we have already reviewed hundreds of cases.
Cheselden was established to bring to an end to the confusing and often unlawful restrictions on the provision of free continuing healthcare across the country. We are based in the North West of England and operate nationally.
We are independently backed which means that we are not restricted by being part of an unwieldy organisation or by commitments to shareholders. We are specialists in the field of continuing care – our sole area of operation – and are committed to supporting claimants in need from across the country.
What We Do
We work on behalf of our clients to
- reclaim funding for care fees that should have been paid by someone else, and
- arrange for the payment of care home fees in the future.
Why what we do matters
Recent government statistics have shown that the number of people who receive NHS Continuing Healthcare varies dramatically by Primary Care Trust (PCT), of which there are 152 in England. This “post code lottery” is wrong. Cheselden wishes to promote nationwide consistency in continuing care funding decisions, whilst gaining restitution for our clients.
Age Concern estimates that 100,000 of the 350,000 people living in care homes should be fully-funded by the NHS – but only a quarter of these currently receive funding. The cost to self-funding patients in continuing care is significant and varies between £400 and £1,200 per week. There is evidence to suggest that some care homes are subsidizing their NHS / Local Authority-funded residents by increasing the cost of their self-funded places. And around 40,000 to 70,000 homes are sold every year to fund care home places. All this makes it even more important that those people who should be getting NHS funding take steps to secure it.
We believe that everyone should have equal, fair and legal access to healthcare as outlined in the 1948 Health Act. Primary Care Trusts and Local Authority Social Services often provide inaccurate advice and confuse the very public that they are duty bound to protect. Cheselden aims to help change this.
